Coal Ash Drying: Breakdown Processes For The Reuse Of Coal Ash
This white paper will breakdown the drying processes and equipment used for the beneficial reuse of coal ash.
Coal ash is a by-product of coal combustion, and forms when coal is burned in boilers that generate steam for power generation and industrial applications. About 80-90 percent of CCRs are made up of basic non-radioactive minerals, such as silicon, iron, aluminum, and calcium. Unfortunately, it is the remainder – arsenic, mercury, and lead – that gives coal ash its toxic reputation.
